First Impression

At first you can be shocked, but with respect to somebody's work I have to say it was not bad because it worked for more than 10 years. One day, suddenly, the internet did not disappear, but it became unstable and slow. Was that a surprise?

Cost

Of course there are things we put aside for later, but the question is simple: can we afford it?

One of the companies I reconnected by changing cabling and adding new ISP connections received a 30 times faster internet connection, redundancy, and stability. Imagine saving even one second per operation, multiplied by all workers across a year. How much can that be worth? How much does a complete loss of connection cost the company?

On the other hand, upgrading can reduce costs. For example, by changing from ISDN to VoIP, the same company saved more than one thousand euros per month. That is real money, but it is available only for companies with very good networks.

Summary

This is not meant to be a long story. The idea is simple: make a plan, implement changes, try to predict what can go wrong, and keep documentation. Then, like with many other things, you can sleep calmly.
